In the Spring of 2020 I got the opportunity to participate in the Post-Grad Apprenticeship Program at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, PA. I, along with four other artists, worked under the guidance of Ash Limes over the course of 4 months to design and print on large pieces of fabric.
While there I learned the art of screen printing one (1) and three (3) color repeat patterns onto fabric yardage. My completed projects include a one-color print entitled “Embodied Botanicals” which depicts various plants and rock formations I’ve documented while in Léogâne, Haiti and the graphite rubbings of manhole covers around City Center in Philly. My 3-color print is entitled “Nou Mache Ansanm” (title in Haitian Kreyol) which is an homage to my maternal grandmother whom I never met but communicate with nonetheless. This work incorporates themes of lineage and language, architecture, proverbs and the use of plant life.
